Back in the ’70s, the NBA tried to create their own kind of player celeb tourney a la the old Home Run Derby tourney’s the MLB had back in the day.
Found this video of Cavs legend Bobby “Bingo” Smith participating in the game back in 1978 vs. Doug Collins.
I can’t help but notice how great of a pure shooter Bingo was. He makes short work of Collins with just basic jump shots.
Smith’s #7 was retired by the Cavs on December 4th, 1979
Just a reminder, that with all the hubbub of Shaq and Delonte and JJ starting to play well that we may have overlooked a major milestone coming up in just one week.
On Nov 27th, big Z will tie former player and current GM Danny Ferry with 723 games played and on Nov 28th he will have played in more games than any Cavalier EVER.
Pretty big deal.

“The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have waived forward/center Dwayne Jones. The 6-11, 250-lb Jones appeared in three preseason games for San Antonio and averaged 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.0 minutes.“

“Of the final three roster spots, Warkentien said he was “hopeful” Carter would take up one spot and the Nuggets “will go and get another wing player” to replace Kleiza. One name floating around is that of veteran guard Wally Szczerbiak, who last played with Cleveland. He is an unrestricted free agent and would fill the need for a perimeter scorer off the bench.
“Of our remaining roster spots, etch this in stone,” Warkentien said. “One of them will be a wing.“
Cleveland Cavaliers announcer Austin Carr |
On March 21st, 2008, at 23 years old, LeBron James passed Brad Daugherty to be the Cleveland Cavaliers’ All-Time Leading Scorer.
Brad had a great career, but due to severe back issues he was forced to end his career at only 28.
So, cheer for LeBron. He is now officially the face of the franchise (probably forever). But also have a toast to Brad Daugherty, a classy player and person who was part of one of the best eras ever in Cavs History.
At just 23 years old, LeBron James has past the legendary Austin Carr on the Cleveland Cavaliers All-Time Scoring List. As of last night, LeBron has 10,267 career points. Austin has 10,265.
Congrats to LeBron. He needs 122 more points to pass Brad Daugherty to become the All-Time Leading Scorer in Cavaliers History.
